I don’t really know why I wrote this Journal, News Item.
It just seemed to be something that I needed to get out of my system.........again!

Some out there will know my views on voluntary work and charities, and some of that is, I feel ,very relevant here at dA.

I do bang on a little about this, and some people will be getting a bit fed up of me repeating myself, but if I can get across to one new person every time I  go over this old ground, then I will feel justified.

There are a lot of people within our community who are living their lives under the pressure of mental and physical illness. Many young people, and I am talking about very young people, have succumbed to the pressures of 21st century living, and are in the grip of self harming,  acute loss of  self respect, OCD and a plethora of equally distressing illnesses.
Older members of the community are suffering physical disability, and mental illness brought on by the pressures prevalent in this worldwide recession we are weathering.

My point in all this is-

Most countries do not have the resources to deal with the massive number of people needing help, and many people, young and old, are slipping through the net.

Let me ask you to consider something.

If you had a couple of hours a month free, would you consider approaching a charity and offering your help? People like you are desperately needed to help run self -funding charities across the globe. It may be as little as an hour or twos tin shaking, or manning the counter at your local charity shop., to training to be a volunteer on the difficult, but ultimately rewarding frontline. All these jobs are equally important, and depend on each other for the continuance of the specific charity.

Many charities are only operating part time, and this is simply because they have not got the manpower.
ERGO, many people  are going without the help and support they so badly need.

I do volunteer work, as do other people I know at dA. It doesn’t ruin my life, in fact, it enriches it a thousandfold.
When you are at a loose end, and wondering what to do with your free time, let me please ask you to consider approaching one of your local charities. They will welcome you with open arms, I guarantee you that. The rewards will certainly enrich your life.
